In April, Hokotehi concluded our Waka Wānanga – Te Ara a Hopo, where we welcomed the crew of the waka hourua Ngahiraka Mai Tawhiti, Taonga Pūoro musicians and local star Ajay Peni back to Kōpinga. We were also joined at Kōpinga marae by the timiriki from Pitt Island school. Ta Ara a Hopo (pathways of the albatross), so named for the importance that the hopo has across the Pacific and also because of our concerns regarding the impact of ocean plastics on bird and marine life.  Hokotehi also held workshops on taonga pūoro and navigation with Kaingaroa and Te One schools.

Hokotehi Moriori Trust is a tribal trust based on Rēkohu (Chatham Islands) representing the indigenous Moriori people. We are looking for an experienced CEO/GM to lead our team of 8 – 10 staff on the Island. HMT owns two sheep and cattle farms, a tourism lodge facility, a number of rental properties, fishing assets, cultural assets and a stunning Marae complex. We are looking for someone who has proven experience, shows initiative, excellent people skills and is happy to live in a remote community. We are looking for someone who can grow the capacity of our group and show effective leadership. Superior listening skills and leadership qualities is a must. Big egos should not apply.

Applicants must have a proven ability in management of a diverse organizstion with a capital value in excess of $40m. Experience in te re/reo and Treaty issues is important or alternatively a willingness to learn. The applicant must be able to show they have a good knowledge of Moriori/Rēkohu/Chatham Islands history and culture. A competitive package (including salary, accommodation, and relocation costs) will be offered to the successful candidate.
